A quilt for Dashwood

Wendy Kendall's first collection for Dashwood, Petite Street was an absolute winner in our eyes, so you can imagine how excited we were to hear that Dashwood had another of her collections in the pipeline.  Retro Orchard really does not disappoint.  It's vibrant and fresh and autumnal in a bright and zingy way that makes it all rather special.

David, Creative Director at Dashwood asked if I would run them up a little wall quilt using Retro Orchard for the studio's summer open day. Chuffed, sums it up nicely!

Retro Orchard has a few prints that are quite large so a little fiddly design was not going to cut the mustard.  A nice stripey design seemed the obvious choice in order to let the fabrics shine.

So after a little fiddling about with the design ...

... and a little more fiddling about ....

I finally settled on a layout.

So here it is, outside my sunny front door, just before it was whisked over to Dashwood.

The Plum Flurry does such an amazing job of framing all those fantastically lush autumnal prints.

And I couldn't help but put this little fella in the bottom left hand corner!

Now I haven't got an orchard myself but I had to have a pic of it in front of the few fruit trees and raspberries I do have in my little garden.

On the back I used the two prints that didn't feature on the front.

And here it is nestled in amongst the other lovely makes back at Dashwood. 'The Stacked Book' quilt, as David had christened it!

How cute is their Advent calendar panel .... and those reindeers!  Weird to see in June but so looking forward to making these up later in the year!

I totally LOVE what they've done with this coffee table.  It's actually resin covered fabric - completely waterproof, smooth and shiny!

If you've made anything with a Dashwood fabric, you can get in touch and share your makes with there here. They may even feature it on their blog.

It's the Sewcial again this Tuesday - seems like an age since the last one, so grab your stitching and head on down to St Anne's Hall in Wendover for 7.30pm tomorrow night. Jen's bringing some of her delicious cakes with her this time - you really don't want to miss those, trust me.  See you there!

Thursday 26 June 2014

It's that time of year again ....

If you're in the Wendover area this Saturday then you could do a lot worse than pop over to the Barn Courtyard and swing by this year's Summer Craft Fair.

This time there's added fun from The Dandy Kid Farm...

... and as ever, a brilliant collection of local artists and makers as well as face painting, ice cream and fabulous food!

While we're on the topic of The Dandy Kid - check out their brand spanking new website here! So fresh and cool it makes me want to buy up everything!  Here's a pic of Kiddo #1 wearing his new Dandy Kid party threads ....

Go check out their collection before it all sells out - run!!!

Back here at HQ we've got what feels like an absolute shipping container's worth of new fabric in!  Jacqui is busy chopping it up as I type so we can show you as much as possible in the shop on Saturday.

New collections include the beautiful September Blue by Susan Driscoll for Dashwood Studio...

and There's another big old load coming next week, too so keep your eyes on the coming soon and just arrived sections of the website.

Also, don't forget The Sewcial at St Anne's Hall, Wendover this Tuesday at 7.30pm.

It's the penultimate meet up before the August break so get yourself and your stitching down there for the usual laughs, cake, chat and tutorial.

If you get chance, give us a shout and let us know if you're bringing hand sewing or your machine so we can set the room out nice and efficiently and give everyone the space they need. Do try to get there nice and early, too - we really don't want to have to turn anyone away. As you can see, we're usually pretty busy but if you're there early we can always budge up and squeeze another one in!

Hope to see you all supporting our local artists and makers at the Courtyard Craft Fair on Saturday.  If you've not been before seriously don't miss it this time ... you can find us in the courtyard behind Antiques At Wendover, 25, The High Street.... see you there!
